Yes, believe it or not, Purina's pet nutrition brand Friskies has launched three web-based games for cats this week. The games are all geared towards use on tablets and other touch screen devices and, in a sign of the times, created entirely in HTML5 and delivered through the browser rather than via Apple's app store. A cute idea, no doubt. Just be sure your cat is declawed so they don't end up destroying your tablet's screen in the process of playing the game.
It looks like big companies are really beginning to see the benefits of delivering apps this way. They no longer have to go through Apple's potentially onerous approval process, and instead can launch instantly on their own deadline. And considerations of delivering the same experience across different devices are obviously a key factor as well - JavaScript powered, HTML5 driven apps all perform the same in any modern browser.
